PLASTIC SURGERY AND MENTAL HEALTH

Plastic surgery is a medical field in which it is possible to make a correction or restoration of form and function. Despite the fact that the cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is the most well-known kind of plastic surgery, most plastic surgeries can not be considered cosmetic, as for example, the reconstructive surgery and the treatment of burns. In both cases the question is whether the plastic surgery was worth the pain and the risk.

For sure, when it comes to reconstructive surgery, the pain and the risks are even lower, considering that it regularly performed to improve function. However, the most important thing in reconstructive surgery is to approximate to a normal appearance.

It is easier to think that it is worth when the plastic surgery comes to remedy functional impairments caused by burns; traumatic injuries, such; congenital abnormalities; developmental abnormalities; or disease, as cancer. In such cases, it is almost impossible to find someone that considers the plastic surgery too risky to be taken.

Nevertheless, even when it comes to aesthetic surgery, the plastic surgery is not so hazardous to be taken. The explanation can be found considering that mental health is part of human health. Therefore, whether mental health is so important to the human being as the physical health, there is no reason to consider that only in reconstructive surgery it is worth the pain and the risks.

Because of the impressive media attention on attractiveness and perfection, most people are turning to plastic surgery each day more and more. Nevertheless, it is important to mention that some people are obsessed about body perfection and this is not health. Researchers believe that plastic surgery obsession is similar to psychological disorders.

This kind of mental disorder is a really big deal in the lives of those people who are obsessed to achieve physical perfection and for that reason, they are more and more going under the knife. In this case, for sure, plastic surgery is not recommended because the person is sick (mental disease). As plastic surgery can be only recommended to those people who are health. The doctor must show to that person that there is a time to stop the obsession for plastic surgery.

All in all, when it comes to plastic surgery in healthy people, the truth is, in both cases i.e. aesthetic surgery or reconstructive surgery, whether the patient takes all the proceedings carefully, looking for a good and responsible doctor who works in a very good and prepared hospital, the plastic surgery is also worth its hassle and risk, definitively.
